What you need to know to play the game

Poker RulesMost people who play Online Poker aren't great at it. The standard of play at many tables is pretty low. So if you play sensibly and follow basic Poker advice then you can shift the playing odds in your favour. If you watch high stake tournaments then you will see the rules go out of the window but you must know them first to break them.

 

  • Fold bad hands. When you are dealt bad hands fold.
  • Raise good hands. If your hand is good make them pay.
  • Don't pick fights. Don't try to beat strong players.
  • Don't lose. If you can't beat them, don't join them, fold.
  • Don't tilt. A cliche' bit of Poker advice but if you playing like yourself then take a break.
  • Time your moves. Take the same amount of time to play each hand.
  • Play against poor players. Don't play against people who are better than you.
  • Don't marry your cards. Don't become too attached to your cards. Throw down your cards when beaten.
  • Play when your happy. If your mind is not on the game give it a break and come back when you are refreshed.
  • Don't play too many hands. Look for the 'players per flop' if this is about 70% then they're playing with bad cards. If the table tightens when you've joined then it's time to move on.
  • Take breaks. If the going gets rough then take a break to refresh.
  • Take a long-term view. You won't win all the time but put it all down to a learning experience.
  • Don'y attack, defend. Don't try to beat other players, let them try to beat. you.
  • Know the rules. The player who knows the rules has the better advantage.
  • Observe your opponents. Spend some time watching the table before joining.
  • Raise in the last round. When you have a great hand wait until the last round.
  • Don't bluff poor players. You can't bluff someone when they don't know what they are doing.
  • Quit when your losing. If you're on a losing streak then stop.
  • Believe in your hands. You must expect to lose the pot unless you believe you have the best hand.
  • Dump drawing hands. Don't always stay in the game to make a straight or flush.
  • Vary your style. If you play the same in a game you will be read.
  • Play your best. Always play youre best even with your mates.
  • Discipline. Don't take all your money to the table. Divide your cash by how many games in the week then into how many sessions.
