Take tour around the table
Roulette attracts a much larger following in Europe than in America. The American roulette wheel averages between fifty and ninety spins per hour, while in Europe the wheel averages 120 spins per hour with more than one dealer usually needed to operate the game. One of the main reasons for roulette's relatively low appeal in the United States is that most American casinos utilize both a zero and a double zero on the roulette wheel. European casinos only use one zero. The house advantage of American roulette becomes 5.26 compared to 2.70 in European roulette, making American roulette the game with the poorest odds for the gambler out of the four basic table games of blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat.
The average American roulette table employs one dealer who stands next to the wheel. The wheel, approximately three feet in diameter, consists of thirty-eight individually numbered cups around its perimeter. Half of the cups, numbered one through thirty-six, are black and the other half are red, while the zero and double zero cups are both green. Each numbered pocket is divided from its neighbors by separators. Red and black cups alternate around the wheel, but the numbers are randomly placed. Often the wheel will be semi-enclosed by a clear, plastic shield that guards against tampering by anyone. There are usually five to ten player chairs around the table. The roulette table can become rather crowded, with players reaching over one another to place bets on the table.
How to read the board
Pick the best odds
Roulette is a popular casino game because it is fun, simple, quick and anyone can play. It also has some of the best odds on the floor. It is a social game when everyone is gathered around the table you get the chance to meet other players. There are two types of roulette - American and European. The American version has an extra pocket '00' which gives the house a better edge over players - almost double. The European game is the better choice as there is only one '0' pocket giving the house a smaller edge over the player.
Roulette tips :
- Pick a segment of the wheel and bet the adjacent numbers.
- VIP European roulette gives you more chance to win with the modified Zero rule. Your get half your bet back if a zero is rolled.
- Try the same eight numbers consecutively - up to a maximum of five times.

Inside bets
Inside bets are also called "layout bets" because they take place within the "layout" (i.e. the numbers 1 through 36).
Split bet
Place your chips on the line separating two numbers. Payout: 17-to-1.
Corner bet
Place your chips on the corner intersecting four numbers. Payout: 8-to-1.
Double street bet
This is similar to a row bet, except now you're playing two rows of six sequential numbers. Place your chips on the vertical line intersecting two rows, straddling the horizontal line dividing the inside and outside boxes. Payout: 5-to-1.
Straight-Up bet
Place your chips on any single number between 1 and 36. Payout: 35-to-1. A true longshot, but if you've got a lucky number, go for it.
Row bet
Place your chips on the horizontal line dividing the inside and outside boxes, in front of any vertical row of three sequential numbers. Payout: 11-to-1.
Basket bet
Place your chips at the lower intersection of the 0 and the 1. You're playing five numbers: 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. Payout: 6-to-1. Without going into the actual ratios, take my word that this bet features roulette's worst mathematical odds. Flash your crucifix at this sucker bet.
